Whether you state it in your CV or not, taking a moment to cross-check your CV before sending it onto your recruiter is essential. Almost daily we recognise mistakes within CV’s, even though “attention to detail” is top of your soft skills list.
The most commonly seen are; duplication of skills in your CV, incorrectly spelt words, Americanised/English spelling (make sure to update your Microsoft spell-checker for this one), and even missed dates in your career history.
As recruiters, it is not our job to rectify these mistakes, even though much of the time we do. However, this takes time and insights, so if you are submitting your own CV, it’s an added essential to put your best foot forward and take a moment to review it using those ‘ attention to detail’ skills, before making your applications. It will save us all time, and ensure you are considered an excellent candidate.
If you find it difficult to review your CV as you have spent so long on it, ask a friend or family member to review it honestly. They may pick up on elements you have missed and provide helpful feedback that will support you.
